Sometimes brochures fall short of description, but the Harbour View Inns brochure does it justice. "History elegantly recreated" is the main caption that they offer, and when I actually saw the house the description certainly fit. It looks like someone's gorgeous private home that they have opened to the public. The beautiful wood floors and Victorian carpets and furniture couldn't be lovelier. As they tell us, this residence was built in 1820 by Madame La Framboise, a Great Lakes fur trader and grand-daughter of Returning Cloud, Chief of the Ottawa Indian Nation. She opened her home to early traders, explorers, artists, writers, Governors and Ladies. It is perfect for a romantic getaway and in fact, they welcome weddings if you are so inclined. The elegant rooms offer either a view of the harbor or of the land-scaped gardens. A complimentary deluxe continental breakfast is served each morning. 906-847-0101
