Great Lakes Road Trip, Part 4: Mackinac Island, Continued! If you visit Mackinac Island, put the 8.2-mile loop around the island at the top of your list. Whether you run, walk, bike it or take a horse around it, it’s one of the most peaceful ways to experience the island. No cars, just incredible shoreline views and the sound of Lake Huron. It ended up being one of our favorite parts of the entire trip. Make sure you walk up the path to see Arch Rock, it’s an absolute must! The rest of the day was spent doing exactly what vacations are supposed to be about. Exploring downtown. Relaxing in Adirondack chairs overlooking Lake Huron. We headed back to watercolormackinac Yes…again. Spending the afternoon at the Grand Hotel. Stopping by mackinacislandcookieco for fresh cookies. Watching the World Cup at the missionpointresort Bar Dinner at the Pink Pony. One last evening stroll through town. Sunday morning called for one final breakfast at Watercolor Cafe (for the 3rd time!) before catching the ferry back to St. Ignace and driving north to our next adventure. Mackinac Island completely lived up to the hype and it was such a unique experience! Many miles of trails are now open, including Arch Rock, Sugar Loaf, Rifle Range, Scott’s Cave, and Crooked Tree Roads, in addition to M-185, the road around the island. While there’s still work to be done, the progress made is a testament to the unwavering commitment to safety for all residents, workers, and guests. For guests planning to visit this year, you can look forward to business as usual in time for the first seasonal ferries running their hourly schedule on April 25. Cleanup efforts may still be ongoing, but hotels, restaurants, and attractions will be open on their scheduled open dates. Lastly, BIG thank you to all parties for their mass collaboration and efforts. During these times you remember it takes a village and the Mackinac Island village extends beyond the 8.2 miles. My first stop whenever I arrive on Mackinac Island will forever be watercolormackinac. 🎨 My order every single time: 🥣 Acai bowl with peanut butter 🥐 One of their famous “Poppies” (their version of Pop-tarts) The brown sugar Poppie is my absolute favorite, but they make different flavors daily, and they sell out FAST, so make sure you go early if you want one. Tucked away in plain sight, Watercolor Cafe is a true local favorite. The kind of hidden gem you almost want to keep to yourself but can’t help but recommend. 🤍 Between the waterfront views, cozy atmosphere, delicious affordable food, and art classes overlooking the water, this spot is one of my favorite places on the island. 🎨 ❤️ Save this for your next Mackinac Island trip 📍 Watercolor Cafe.
