Mackinac Island Vacation Lodging and Recreation

Grand Hotel

Grand Hotel is situated on the southwestern bluff of Mackinac Island overlooking the Straits of Mackinac and – in the distance – the Mackinac Bridge. From the front porch – the world’s largest at 660 feet – guests can look down at the well-kept gardens and relax and enjoy the ambiance of “somewhere in time”. It is no wonder that hollywood has chosen to come here more than once. Indeed, like a classic movie, Grand Hotel is larger that life. The Victorian elegance has been kept intact. Each room at Grand Hotel has been tastefully decorated by New York designer Carleton Varney with its own special character and style. Breakfast and dinner daily are included in the Grand Hotel room rate, and are served in the Main Dining Room. Visit their website and familiarize yourself with the elegance and the history of this magnificent hotel. A stay on Mackinac Island at Grand Hotel is a unique experience and most guests depart to the mainland with memories that last a lifetime.

Instagram post 17845244558451056 Well, I am officially back to work and looking back 6 weeks ago, the thought of going back to work made me nauseous.  How could I step back into a role that made me face my husbands death over and over again? Thats what I do for a living. I am a critical care nurse practitioner. Death and dying are unfortunately a huge part of my job. I take care of the sickest of the sick. I have end of life conversations with families. I run codes on patients. And just 6 weeks ago, I was on the other side as the family who had to see her husband being resuscitated by my co-workers after he unexpectedly and suddenly through a lethal arrhythmia while driving home from work. I had to watch my best friend, soul mate, and the love of my life get coded. And after over 45 minutes without regaining a pulse after immediate CPR and being defibrillated over 10 times, I had to make the call to stop resuscitative efforts.

But walking back into work and into my role, I have this new found strength. I picked up were I left off 6 weeks ago and I went back to the job I love with a little more grit, perspective, and understanding from the other side of the table. My work family has surrounded me with so much love and support and I am truly grateful to be back at work and trying to muddle through finding my new normal.

The first night I came home from work was really hard. I didn’t anticipate the feelings I would have coming home from a “normal day at work” to not having Scott at home waiting for me. Usually he would just be getting off work when I got home and those are the moments we would look forward to after a long work day. We just looked forward to spending the night together. And I don’t have that anymore. So now I come home, to a quiet house and it really hit me hard. I still don’t get it. I don’t think I ever will. But for now, I just have to fight through each day and reward myself for the little accomplishments + victories. I made it back to work. I can function at work and be a competent provider with a lot to offer my patients, their families, and my co-workers. And for that, I will give myself some grace for the sad moments post work because it WILL get better. ❤️

Instagram post 18111574246144129 Do you know about World Sauntering Day? 🌎 It started at the grandhotelmichigan in Makinac Island in the 1970s. The idea behind the day is to slow down and enjoy the good things in life 🥰 and that’s easy to do on #MakinacIsland! In case you didn’t know 😎 sauntering means walking slowly with a happy disposition. 🤗 Once you taste some of the world famous fudge 🍫 and candy 🍭 of the shops downtown, it’ll be easy to saunter along Main Street. Happy Tuesday! 🥰💋
